CO-INVESTIGATOR

Emmanuel Mgqwashu is an Associate Professor and Head of the Education Department at Rhodes University’s Faculty of Education. His fields of expertise are Higher Education, Applied Language Studies and Literary Studies. Emmanuel is a co-investigator in an NRF research project Access and Inclusion in Higher Education on ways in which disciplinary discourses and pedagogic practices across disciplines in higher education serve to include and exclude students. This project involves 18 universities, including comprehensive universities and universities of technology. Emmanuel is also a co-investigator on the research project The influence of rurality on student trajectories through higher education: a view from the South. This project involves universities within the SADC region. Finally, he is also an NRF grant holder for Learning to Read, Reading to Learn, Learning to Write: Literacy Development for Secondary Schooling. This study examines the role of teaching of reading across the curriculum for epistemological access.
